چکیده

The crossing number of a graph G = (V,E), denoted by cr(G), is the smallest number of edge crossings in any drawing of G in the plane. Leighton [14] proved that for any n-vertex graph G of bounded degree, its crossing number satisfies cr(G) + n = Ω(bw(G)), where bw(G) is the bisection width of G. The lower bound method was extended for graphs of arbitrary vertex degrees to cr(G)+ 1 16 ∑ v∈G d 2 v = Ω(bw(G)) in [15,19], where dv is the degree of any vertex v. We improve this bound by showing that the bisection width can be replaced by a larger parameter the cutwidth of the graph. Our result also yields an upper bound for the path-width of G in term of its crossing number.

An extended lower bound on the number of (k)-edges to generalized configurations of points and the pseudolinear crossing number of Kn

Recently, Aichholzer, Garćıa, Orden, and Ramos derived a remarkably improved lower bound for the number of (≤ k)-edges in an n-point set, and as an immediate corollary an improved lower bound on the rectilinear crossing number of Kn. We use simple allowable sequences to extend all their results to the more general setting of simple generalized configurations of points and slightly improve the l...

A New Lower Bound for Completion Time Distribution Function of Stochastic PERT Networks

In this paper, a new method for developing a lower bound on exact completion time distribution function of stochastic PERT networks is provided that is based on simplifying the structure of this type of network. The designed mechanism simplifies network structure by arc duplication so that network distribution function can be calculated only with convolution and multiplication. The selection of...

Improved Lower Bounds on Book Crossing Numbers of Complete Graphs

A book with k pages consists of a straight line (the spine) and k half-planes (the pages), such that the boundary of each page is the spine. If a graph is drawn on a book with k pages in such a way that the vertices lie on the spine, and each edge is contained in a page, the result is a k-page book drawing (or simply a k-page drawing). The k-page crossing number νk(G) of a graph G is the minimu...

Outerplanar Crossing Numbers, the Circular Arrangement Problem and Isoperimetric Functions

We extend the lower bound in [15] for the outerplanar crossing number (in other terminologies also called convex, circular and one-page book crossing number) to a more general setting. In this setting we can show a better lower bound for the outerplanar crossing number of hypercubes than the best lower bound for the planar crossing number. We exhibit further sequences of graphs, whose outerplan...
